Jo Searle will be presenting a workshop from 31st
March to 1st April 2012. The cost would
be $140 and she asked members to give names of who
would be attending and advised them to prepare a
slab of smooth plaster to work on.
The Nambour Garden Expo will be on 6th to
8th July this year and our site has been
booked. We do not yet know if the cost will increase
but Jackie advised there may be a slight increase
for stall holders to cover the cost of better
advertising.
The international judge for Ignition is Jackson Li
from China. He will be in Australia for the National
Ceramics Conference and is keen to come to the
Sunshine Coast. He has indicated he would be happy
to do a workshop during the first 2 weeks of
September. He plans to make 100 tea bowls which will
form an exhibition of his own. He has a wide range
of skills from brush making to decoration to
throwing large and small pots. We will apply for a
grant to cover his costs and may be able to tie it
in with the sister city program which exists with
the Sunshine Coast Regional Council.
Ignition will be set up on the 30
September with opening night on the Friday the 7th
at the Butter Factory Arts Centre Cooroy. Exhibits
can be sent direct to the Butter Factory and stored
there. Members will be requested to volunteer for
unpacking, knocking down and manning the venue
sometimes. Only about 130 pieces can be exhibited so
some culling will be done. More specific details are
available on the website. There will be an
advertisement in the Journal of Australian Ceramics.
Jackie and several members have discussed the gap
between studio potters art trail on the range and
potters on the coast. It was proposed that members
could come together for a potters’ fair and Jackie
suggested it could be held in her garden as she has
had successful open days in the past. We have
trestle tables stored in the shipping container and
potters would be responsible for setting up and
selling their own work. Cittamani could come and
serve tea and coffee from the studio to raise funds
and add interest. Advertising and distribution of
flyers could be arranged. Please give us feedback.
Saturday 18th August 2012 is the likely
date. We would then have the advantage of promoting
the event at the Nambour Garden Expo.
The Bribie Island Art Festival to be held from 14th
to 29th July 2012 at the Bribie Island
Community Arts Centre. Tutors include Kate French,
Kevin Grealey, Cameron Hess and Jackie Gasson. For
